Planned · v2

How far is “far”? Measure your latency, live.

Round-trip time from our edge to any host, city, or region — the number that decides whether calls feel instant or walkie-talkie. Coming in v2.

What it does

Ping is the feel of the internet.

Bandwidth is how wide the road is; latency is how long the drive takes. A video call to Tokyo on a 200 ms link feels like talking through a delay pedal no matter how fast the line is. You can measure real round-trip latency to our edge today in the dashboard below — three timed samples, median reported. The v2 probe this page describes goes further: timing the path from our edge to any destination you name.

✓

Any destination

A hostname, a city, a region — “tokyo”, “api.example.com”, “eu-west”. The tool resolves it and times the round trip from our deployment edge.

✓

Measured, not estimated

Real timed requests from real infrastructure — not a geography formula. Routing quirks and congested paths show up in the number.

✓

Read-only by design

It times a request and reports the number. It changes nothing, touches nothing, stores nothing.

✓

Why v2?

Honest latency needs a deployed edge that can time outbound requests — that infrastructure ships with the production platform, not before.

Honest status

“Latency to Destination” is a planned v2 tool.

It isn’t live yet — and we won’t fake it. This tool requires: deployed edge probing — the MCP server must run on infrastructure that can time outbound requests. The full probe waits on the backend — nothing here fakes it.

Join the pre-launch signup and we’ll notify you the moment this tool goes live for real accounts.

See pricing

Already working today: the dashboard below measures real round-trip latency from your browser to our edge — three timed samples, median reported. What waits for v2 is probing from our edge to any destination you name.

Under the hood

Real parameters, real behavior.

In the esimgomobile ChatGPT app and API, this tool is called with exactly these parameters — nothing hidden, nothing invented.

ParameterTypeWhat it is
destinationstringHostname, city, or region to test — e.g. “tokyo”.

How it works

  1. You name a destination: hostname, city, or region.
  2. The production edge resolves it and times a real outbound request.
  3. The tool reports the round-trip time in milliseconds.
  4. Read-only throughout: it measures, it doesn’t modify anything.
Honest capability note

What this tool can and can’t do.

Two tiers, stated plainly. Today: the dashboard below measures real round-trip latency from your browser to our edge — three timed same-origin samples, median reported, nothing stored. Not yet: probing from our edge to any destination you name ("tokyo", "api.example.com") — that's gated on the production edge, and this page stays honest about it. We will not ship a version that "estimates" latency from a map; the whole point is measuring the real path. Until v2, the dashboard's edge measurement is a useful stand-in for nearby destinations.

Questions, answered

Before you ask.

What is latency, exactly?
Round-trip time: how long a packet takes to go from you (or our edge) to a destination and back, in milliseconds. Under 30 ms feels instant; over 150 ms, conversations start talking over each other.
Why can’t the v2 probe run from my browser?
Browsers can’t run the kind of timed outbound probes an any-destination tool needs (no raw sockets, no ICMP) — and they can’t probe a host they’re not visiting. That’s why the dashboard below measures same-origin round-trip to our edge (real HTTPS timing, honestly labeled), while the v2 any-destination probe has to happen server-side, from infrastructure we operate.
How is this different from a speed test’s ping?
A speed test measures ping to its own test server. This tool measures to any destination you name — the actual API, game server, or city you care about.
What latency is good for voice calls?
Under 150 ms one-way is the telecom target; under 60 ms round-trip feels local. Satellite links (500+ ms) are where calls start feeling like walkie-talkies.
Will the v2 tool store my queries?
No — read-only means read-only. It times the request, reports the number, and keeps nothing.
When does v2 ship?
With the production platform at launch. Join the pre-launch signup and we’ll announce the v2 tool surface when the edge is live.

How Latency to Destination works

  1. Open the tool
    • No account needed — Latency to Destination runs right in your browser.
    • Everything happens on the page; nothing to install.
  2. Enter your details
    • Answer the few questions the tool asks — trip, destination, dates.
    • The tool validates as you type so mistakes get caught early.
  3. Get your answer
    • Results appear instantly, computed from your inputs.
    • Every result links onward to the next step — usually a plan or checkout.
  4. Act on it
    • Apply the result: pick a plan, install the eSIM, or save the guidance.
    • You can rerun the tool any time; your last inputs are remembered.

The pattern is always the same: tell the tool a little about your trip, and it does the research you'd otherwise do across ten tabs.

Tools are free and instant. They're the fastest way to turn a vague travel question into a concrete next step.

When to use Latency to Destination

  • At the airport: for last-minute answers when plans change.
  • After the trip: to review what you used and plan smarter next time.
  • While planning: before you book anything, so connectivity is priced into the trip.
  • Mid-trip: when you need to top up, switch plans, or check what's next.

Most travelers use Latency to Destination once while planning and once on the road. Both visits take under a minute.

Bookmark it — travel questions have a habit of returning at the worst moment.

Tips for best results

  • Hotspot sparingly: one laptop tethered all day can burn through a week of phone data.
  • Buy and install your eSIM before departure — airport Wi-Fi is the worst place to set up connectivity.
  • Keep your home SIM active for two-factor codes from your bank; run data on the eSIM line.
  • Turn off auto-play on social apps before you fly; it quietly eats roaming data.
  • WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime keep your existing number on a data eSIM — no need to tell anyone a new number.
  • Save your eSIM QR code somewhere safe (email it to yourself) in case you switch phones mid-trip.

If a result surprises you, rerun with different inputs. Exploring the options is the point.

The tool is only as good as its inputs — a rough date range beats a perfect one you never enter.

Explainer

What happens next

Every tool result points somewhere useful: usually a plan that fits, sometimes a guide that goes deeper.

And if you'd rather talk it through, the Tele Agent answers the same questions conversationally, any time.

From here the path is short — pick a plan, check out through Amazon Pay, scan the QR code, and you're done.
