How fast is your internet, really?

Run a real download measurement right in your browser — timed, honest, and labeled for what it is. No app, no signup.

What it does

A speed test that tells the truth about itself.

Most speed tests are black boxes: a flashy number with no method. Ours downloads a real file from this site, times it, and shows the math — then tells you plainly that a browser test is a rough estimate, not a lab measurement.

✓

Real measurement

We download an actual asset from esimgomobile.com with cache-busting and time it. Bytes divided by seconds — that’s the number, no synthesis.

✓

Latency included

Five same-origin round-trips give you an honest local latency figure plus jitter — the spread that decides whether video calls stutter — alongside the download number.

✓

Honestly labeled

Browser tests can’t saturate your line the way native apps do — we say so on the results card instead of pretending otherwise.

✓

Your history stays with you

Your last 5 results live in this browser's local storage — handy for comparing the hotel Wi-Fi against your eSIM. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or tied to your identity.

Interactive test

Run the test.

One tap. Your browser runs five latency probes, then downloads a test payload from this site and times it — typically a few seconds.

Ready when you are.

01The question

How fast is it, really?

Not the advertised number. Not the lab maximum. What your browser actually pulled down, just now — in bytes and seconds, honestly labeled.

02The method

Bytes divided by seconds.

The dashboard below downloads a real asset from this site — twice, cache-busted — and reports the faster run. That’s the number: no synthesis, no lab, no theater.

0 KBtest payload · both runs

03The verdict

Your number, your verdict.

This card mirrors the live dashboard below — the moment you run the real test, it assembles itself around your actual result.

No measurement yet — the dashboard below is the real instrument. Run it and this card assembles itself around your actual result.

Run the speed test
Under the hood

Real parameters, real behavior.

In the esimgomobile ChatGPT app and API, this tool is called with exactly these parameters — nothing hidden, nothing invented.

This tool takes no parameters — it works with one tap.

How it works

  1. You press “Run test” in the widget.
  2. The browser downloads a test payload from esimgomobile.com with cache-busting, timing the transfer.
  3. Download speed is computed as bytes × 8 ÷ seconds.
  4. Five same-origin round-trips give a local latency figure and its jitter (median plus mean spread).
  5. Results get a quality grade using our published thresholds — the same ones the connection grader uses.
Honest capability note

What this tool can and can’t do.

Honest limits, stated upfront: a browser download test measures what your browser achieved to our server right now — not your line’s theoretical maximum, not upload speed, and not latency to Tokyo. Congestion, VPNs, and browser throttling all move the number. It’s a genuine measurement of a genuine transfer, labeled as the estimate it is. For a verdict on what the numbers mean, feed them to the connection grader.

Questions, answered

Before you ask.

How does a browser speed test work?
It downloads a file of known size and divides bytes by seconds. Ours downloads a dedicated 5 MB payload from esimgomobile.com with a cache-busting query string so the browser can’t serve a stale copy.
Why is my result lower than my plan’s advertised speed?
Advertised speeds are lab maximums. Real results lose to Wi-Fi overhead, distance to the server, congestion, VPN encryption (~10–15%), and browser limits. A browser test is a conservative floor, not a ceiling.
What is jitter, and why measure it?
Jitter is how much your latency varies from moment to moment. A 30 ms ping with 5 ms jitter feels crisp on video calls; the same 30 ms with 40 ms jitter stutters. This test runs five same-origin round-trips and reports the median latency and the mean spread, so you see stability, not just speed.
Does this test measure upload speed?
No — honestly. Reliable browser upload measurement needs a server endpoint that accepts and times uploads, which we don’t fake. Download + latency is what this test genuinely measures.
Is my result stored or shared?
Your last 5 results are kept in this browser's local storage so you can compare runs — that's it. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or tied to your identity.
Should I test on Wi-Fi or mobile data?
Test the connection you actually want to judge. On a trip, that means testing the hotel Wi-Fi and your travel eSIM separately — then using the faster one for what matters.
What’s a ‘good’ result for travel?
Enough for your plans: 10+ Mbps handles HD calls and streaming; under 60 ms ping keeps calls natural. Check the speed-requirements table for your specific activities.

How Free Internet Speed Test works

  1. Open the tool
    • No account needed — Free Internet Speed Test runs right in your browser.
    • Everything happens on the page; nothing to install.
  2. Enter your details
    • Answer the few questions the tool asks — trip, destination, dates.
    • The tool validates as you type so mistakes get caught early.
  3. Get your answer
    • Results appear instantly, computed from your inputs.
    • Every result links onward to the next step — usually a plan or checkout.

The pattern is always the same: tell the tool a little about your trip, and it does the research you'd otherwise do across ten tabs.

Tools are free and instant. They're the fastest way to turn a vague travel question into a concrete next step.

When to use Free Internet Speed Test

  • At the airport: for last-minute answers when plans change.
  • Mid-trip: when you need to top up, switch plans, or check what's next.
  • While planning: before you book anything, so connectivity is priced into the trip.
  • After the trip: to review what you used and plan smarter next time.

Bookmark it — travel questions have a habit of returning at the worst moment.

Most travelers use Free Internet Speed Test once while planning and once on the road. Both visits take under a minute.

Tips for best results

  • Buy and install your eSIM before departure — airport Wi-Fi is the worst place to set up connectivity.
  • Check that your phone is carrier-unlocked before you buy any eSIM — locked phones can't add one.
  • Charge your phone before long travel days; weak signal areas drain batteries faster.
  • Download offline maps for your destination — they save data and work in dead zones.
  • If a page won't load, toggle airplane mode for ten seconds — it forces a fresh network attach.
  • Screenshot your hotel address and booking confirmations — you'll want them with no signal.

If a result surprises you, rerun with different inputs. Exploring the options is the point.

The tool is only as good as its inputs — a rough date range beats a perfect one you never enter.

Can I use it on my phone?

Is my data shared?

Your inputs stay in your browser session. We don't sell tool usage data, and there's no ad tracker watching the form.
